As well as a coach and a writer, I am a music lover. My tastes are eclectic – blues, folk, jazz, new wave, indie, rock, punk, pop, film soundtracks.. I am inspired by new discoveries and old favourites alike.
A recent discovery was Beethoven’s Emperor’s Concerto which is a great soundtrack to write to. In fact, it’s playing now.
Sometimes – in the coaching world particularly – it can be exhausting for clients to hear everyone being teeth-grittingly bright about the future; always light, bright and breezy. Too much positivity. I have started to call it “The unbearable being of lightness“.
At times like these I turn up the music. I like to mash up the songs and blend the lyrics for fun. Anything to stand the rule book on its head. That way blood rushes to the brain and a slim slice of sense might be found in a crazy world. We all need a little love and affection and, when people are scarce, lyrics and tunes can keep us warm on cold nights..
Here are a few lyrics that just popped into my head. Somtimes I add alternative words or responses from other songs to make me laugh or cry. Other times I alternate soft mellow tracks with loud life-affirming ones.
Play the game any way you like. It helps you stay centred when the world rocks (see what I did there?!)
- “I hear the train a comin’ – it’s rolling round the bend – and I ain’t seen the sunshine since I don’t know when”
- “I’m going where the sun keeps shining in the pouring rain – where the weather suits my clothes”
- “You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht“
- “I’ve been waiting so long to be where I’m going – in the sunshine of your love“
Ok – your turn..
Please message me if you are finding the lightness (or darkness) unbearable. I am here for you – with musical interludes.
